Type D-1, named Simon (サイモン Saimon?), is a humanoid creature distinguishable for his muscular strength. He was produced twice through human genome experimentation -- first by genetic engineer Dr. Roy Curien, and again by Curien's associate Thornheart -- to be used in humanity-threatening incidents and schemes.

When he was produced by Curien, Simon belonged to a D-type group of other muscular creatures: Gilmore (ギルモア Girumoa?), Harris (ハリス Harisu?), and Robert (ロバート Robāto?). In addition to inheriting Simon's physique, they had weapons and abilities which Simon lacked.

He is an enemy in both The House of the Dead and House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.

History

1998 Curien Mansion incident

Main article: The House of the Dead (1996 video game)

Simon and the three other D-type creatures were originally developed by the late genetic engineer Dr. Roy Curien, then research director of the DBR Corporation. Having gone insane due to various reasons, Curien released the creatures in his mansion to murder his own research team. AMS agents Thomas Rogan and G killed the creatures and ultimately foiled Curien's plan.[1]

Years after Curien's death, his associate Thornheart reproduced Simon and several other of the scientist's creatures as part of a plan named "Noah's Ark". Thornheart, then manager of the Scarecrow Mansion, released the creatures upon guests of a dinner party. The threat was dispatched by AMS agents Kate Green and Ryan Taylor.[2]

Bestiary Overview

Appearance

Simon is a pale-skinned, shirtless muscular zombie with glowing white eyes, dark hair, and gray pants. His left arm and portion of his upper chest have exposed muscles.

In his Scarlet Dawn iteration, he appears more greenish pale than before and has red eyes. The muscles on his left arm are more green compared to his skin. This is likely due to being incubated in biochemical liquids altering his muscular system. It also gave him increased health, as opposed to his first creation, and slightly thicker skin suiting him as armor.

Offense

Like other muscular zombies (Gilmore, Harris, and Robert), Simon dies in two shots to the head, but can otherwise withstand several bullets to the rest of his body. He attacks with a shoulder strike, but can also throw barrels and oil drums from a distance.

In the second chapter, a Simon attempts throwing a civilian at the player. One can potentially lose up to two lives here: accidentally shooting the civilian costs one life, and not killing the zombie in time costs another from an unavoidable throw attack.

In Scarlet Dawn, little has changed with Simon's offensive patterns from the first game.

Related Creatures

Exclusive to The House of the Dead are three other muscular creatures who are related to Simon:

Gilmore

Scan-20-5

Type D-2, named Gilmore (ギルモア Girumoa?), is the second iteration of Simon.

Bestiary Overview

Appearance

Gilmore is a tall, muscular creature wearing light-gray pants and a belt. Bald and sporting blank-white eyes, he attempts bludgeoning players with a giant hammer. He appears to be skinless, revealing his muscles; Harris has a similar appearance.

Offense

Gilmore's signature move is an overhead bludgeon attack with his hammer. However, despite his large health, he tends to move slow and can be killed with two headshots. At times, he approaches the player faster if shot. One can disable Gilmore's hammer by blowing off his right arm, although he can still shoulder tackle or punch.

Harris

Type D-3, named Harris (ハリス Harisu?), is the third iteration of Simon.

Scan-20-6

Bestiary Overview

Appearance

Harris is a bearded, blank-eyed zombie. Being skinless, his muscles are exposed. He resembles another zombie, Gilmore, only with a vest, facial hair, and darker-colored pants.

Offense

Harris swings his ball and chain in a circular motion, attacking players seconds later. The ball is invulnerable to gunfire. He stands in place to attack, only advancing toward players while attack at the end of the final stage. Two headshots will kill him.

Harris' right arm can be shot to remove his weapon, after which he will advance toward the player for a swipe or bite attack. The only exception to this is the beginning of stage 3, in which two Harris creatures are unable to move when disarmed; both are behind a security desk.

Robert

Robert

Type D-4, named Robert (ロバート Robāto?), is the fourth and final iteration of Simon.

Bestiary Overview

Appearance

Robert is is light-skinned and shirtless, with blank eyes and a few strands of dark hair. The left portion of his face, chest, and his entire left arm is retrofitted in cybernetic machinery.

Offense

Robert is a slow-moving creature who attacks with a shoulder tackle. His metallic attachments deflect firepower, and he briefly shields himself with his arm whenever shot. He dies quicker in two headshots, with the player waiting in between them for Robert's face to be unobstructed again.
